DancehALL is a techno-urban showcase in which bodies move in an obsessive ritual. Four dances – salsa, cha-cha-cha, jive and polka – are stripped of their context and reduced to essential dynamic patterns: the steps, once sensual, become raw, mechanical gestures in a choral choreography where contact becomes detached and energy is expended in rhythmic, precise movements. Enveloped in a stark black-and-white atmosphere, the performers trace sharp lines and move their bodies in jerks, with unnatural smiles and arms waving energetically: ballroom dancing is transformed into a dance ‘to be performed’, devoid of pathos and variability. DancehALL is an experiment that invites reflection on the body and movement in an era dominated by mechanisation and the loss of humanity, questioning what remains when passion gives way to the exercise of style. It won the Danza Urbana XL 2025 competition because it is “a tribute to dance and social interaction through the rhythm of four dances – salsa, cha-cha-cha, jive and polka – which, when deconstructed, form a choreography capable of engaging diverse audiences”, as stated on the competition’s official website.
