INTERPLAY 2022

LO INVISIBLE. Performance that integrates dance and physical theater by staging the difficult relationship that the human being has with itself. The search for the self by the protagonists passes through the movements of an agitated, restless dance, which recalls the trance of the shamanic ritual.

AZZURRO: The artistic research of the company is based on the power of imagination, always looking for new languages in a constant search towards an extremely dynamic physicality. Since its foundation in 2016, Mario Bermudez has created 12 choreographies for Marcat Dance that have been performed 112 times in 10 countries and over 50 cities.

DYE DYE. Direct, impactful, a melting pot of different stylistic languages. The strikes of break dance blend like ground-to-air incursions on the dynamic lines of contemporary dance. As they dance, the protagonists color, dilute, mix new tones along the way until at a certain point they both find a way to merge into an unpublished relationship.

In the path between the Association VIA BALTEA in Via Baltea and the BAGNI PUBBLICI in Via Agliè, PIETRA TONALE and the choreographic duo formed by Sara and Nicola, will guide the public in a path of performance through the streets of Barriera di Milano. The musical collective was born and works in the quarter and the festival has deliberately wanted to create an opportunity for artistic collaboration between live music and dance.

ALCUNE COREOGRAFIE. A multidisciplinary and experimental performance that puts the dancer Ramona Caia in dialogue with a precious and ponderous work of video collection, editing and subsequent reworking of a series of types of dances. The choreography is built through the mimesis of a multitude of video fragments, edited in a strict sequence, rummaging through the history of dance and performance, going through cinema and internet and looking for a sensitive kinetic matter.

CONCERTO FOR MANDOLIN AND STRING IN C MAJOR BY VIVALDI. The classical and popular musicality of the mandolin strings is plucked by a dynamic, athletic dance. A relationship of complicity in the game between the said and the unsaid seems to characterize the movements but also the looks of the two dancers.

CUANDO SOMOS. Less physical yet more poetic is the research of CARLA CERVANTES CARO and SANDRA EGIDO IBAÑEZ, which by dealing with issues of gender identity, stands out to fight discrimination and stereotypes. The duo presenting at the festival is a hypnotic work, in which the two bodies through fluid movements bring out the duality between plasticity and strength.

“How long will you stay hidden behind a clay statue?” Perfect calcs showing the victims in the position in which they died. Since 79 A.D., so for eternity. Taking a cue from the cast of “Gli amanti”…

GLI AMANTI, an eighteen-minute pièce yet already reported by critics as “the dream of an absolute love between two people.”

TALK ABOUT DEATH. A duo intended to comfort those who live fully by embracing the depths between life and death. Minimized movements serve to quietly draw thoughts of death as a mere serial process of lives. The white cubicle shows a coffin and gives a distinctive boundary line that separates the living and the dead and indicates the last space that is considered the final destination of our lives.

IDILLIO. A choreographic solo in which the body attempts to explore new vocabularies and detach itself from its cultural heritage. Movement is dictated by an exchange of information between the parts of the body, constant impulses and adaptations. The body undergoes the opposition between rationality and causality and the project wants to reflect on how we vent the feelings of lightheartedness/urgency of acting in response to the constant insecurity of the choices we make every day.

SET OF SETS. In how many ways is it possible to investigate the notion of time? Guy Nader and Maria Campos continue to explore it as a fundamental concept digging into the idea of infinity as an unceasing cycle. The rotary motion, in particular, is the leitmotif of the piece, almost recalling the clockwise and counterclockwise motion of the pointers, the movements of evolution and rotation of the planets and the trajectories of all the objects that move in space.

EX-POSE(S). Two duets, two emblematic sculptors of the twentieth century from which one and the other are inspired. On the one hand the Frenchman Henri Laurens, on the other the Senegalese Ousmane Sow. On one side La Petite Musicienne (1937) and La Petite Espagnole (1954) by the former.

From fleeting encounters to lasting friendships, it’s always more exciting to engage with those around you than to be completely alone. Technical virtuosity is retrograde, community is the new black. A shy smile, a cheeky squeeze, a multitude of beginnings.

RE_PLAY. A danced and spoken solo balanced between personal and public, real and fake, in dialogue with everyday technology. A stage of aesthetic and intellectual re-elaboration of a personal experience, it stands in the gap between sound-voice and movement; it continues the study of the game between autobiographical reality and fiction up to probe its limits in a choreographic sense, which means compositional and musical.

ROUND TRIP. The performance is an investigation of pure movement. It is the result born from the awareness that without space there would be no movement, but without movement space would not be conceivable. There is no linear story but moments, images, situations that transfigure the formal data of the choreographic score in music, in what seems to be a “mosaic-work”.

BRUTAL LOVE POEMS. Raw and dynamic, Brutal Love Poems explores the “wild” side that we hide inside of us and that only reveals itself in our most intimate moments. Somehow, this revelation of our most primal being, terrible and brutal, is perhaps only ever manifested in front of those closest to us, the person we love.

RIGHT. A free adaptation of Igor Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du printemps, Right by Carlo Massari, for nine dancers of the Florentine company Opus Ballet, re-proposes the myth of the propitiatory sacrifice of a virgin in a modern key.

A POSTO, eleven years after its first performance, brings back on stage three girls who, having met to enjoy their picnic basket, find themselves exploring the room in search of something that escapes their gaze. From the lightness of the country scene everything begins to slide in small chimes towards a more surreal and absurd dimension; towards a dimension suspended in time that holds the protagonists and in which everything begins to escape them.

TOTEMICA, LITURGIA DELLA DISPERSIONE. The show was born in the period of the pandemic as a reflection on the contemporary human condition and its perpetual sense of omnipotence. The choreography shows an unrecognizable god in the present, concrete in history, living energy but expired in an unidentified limbo.

ADAMA. A telluric dance that emerges from the depths of the earth and twisted roots, of wilderness, of trees separated on the surface that muddle their roots underground, that embrace each other below in a built-in web that connects them, that makes them strong and secure.

IDI-BEGI. An urban dance performance inspired by the dragging of rocks done by oxen known as Idi-Probak in the Basque Country. It recreates on stage the bond between the animal and man, its physicality, hierarchy and its language in the square, all through the eyes of the animal.

ESERCIZI PER UN MANIFESTO POETICO. The debut work of the MINE Collective, “Esercizi per un manifesto poetico” coincides with the founding act of the company. The co-authorial manifesto finds its dance writing in a choreographic practice written by ten hands in which individual breath and unison interpenetrate and in which the choral and synchronic weaving of space and bodies becomes inspiration for a collective language and an evocative poetics.

DIVERGENCE. It is a show whose original spark sinks into the traditional acrobatic fight scene at the Beijing Opera “At the Crossroad,” which features a table, a chair and two people on stage who neither speak nor sing. Like “At the Crossroads,” Divergence presents a bare place in which the paths of two lonely entities collide, resulting in an open-stage duel.

HOW TO_just another bolero. Duo created on the famous notes of Maurice Ravel’s Boléro, composition for orchestra of 1928. The incessant beating of the drum and the melody of the work have guided the two authors in the creation of eighteen images, as eighteen are the repetitions of the theme, arranged in a gradual and continuous crescendo from the initial pianissimo to the majestic final.

FIGHT. A duo based on the relationship human beings have with fighting, a primitive bond that has been present since the beginning of time. A fundamental element in life in general and in dance in particular. Fight is a confrontation between bodies that develops in the lines of a dance placed between attraction and repulsion, where the approach and the relationship is always configured with the violent movements of combat.

Integrated Dance Company. A non-profit integrated dance company based in Turin, where dancers with and without physical-motor disabilities perform together. They organize performances and participate in events, dance festivals, performing arts festivals at national and international level.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY PERFORMANCE. Two artists, two styles of expression, two cultural backgrounds. A multidisciplinary performance related to movement art and mural painting. After the experiences at the festival in 2020 and 2021, made respectively with Daniele Ninarello and Chiara Bersani, Gosia Turzeniecka returns to the scene of Interplay, to leave another permanent trace on the walls of the backyard of the lavanderia a vapore.

BRIGHT FEATHERS. Bright Feathers is the mise en éspace of the path of rebirth of those who metabolize their own discomfort, a violence suffered from the outside or from the incessant internal conflict. The piece appears as the desire to finally be oneself, harmonizing with one’s own soul; it is a male quartet where dance is a ritual of initiation, a cathartic dialogue with the dark soul that inhabits us, that moves us and that reveals doubts, discomforts and instincts that are sometimes unavowable.

MOMENTO. The choreographic project Il racconto dell’isola sconosciuta – The Tale of the Unknown Island, freely inspired by the work of José Saramago, is part of a larger artistic project around the theme of time, its flow and the emotional and social condition that this relationship triggers.

WHAT I AM IS ALREADY GONE Starting from the famous Death of the Swan, “WHAT I AM IS ALREADY GONE For the fatigued body” investigates vulnerability as an engine capable of generating revolution, of triggering a gesture of resistance that turns into a dance that is a calm and constant struggle.

PESO PIUMA – COLLECTIVE. Nasce dall’incontro tra Viola Scaglione, Lisa Mariani, Nadja Guesewell, Flavio Ferruzzi, Luca Tomasoni del Balletto Teatro di Torino e Silvia Gribaudi. Il lavoro è una pratica fisica della durata di 15 minuti che mette in atto un rito empatico che parte da una dimensione individuale e trasporta performer e pubblico verso una dimensione collettiva.
