INTERPLAY 2026

We will not lower our voices. An enveloping blend of contemporary, urban and folk dance, the piece is rooted in the body as ritual. Two women dance an embodied resistance, dressed in white, with long hair, eyes heavily lined in black and dark tears that evoke strength, pain and rebirth.

Maldonne. French excellence: choreographer Leïla Ka, who has previously programmed works in earlier editions of the festival (Pode Ser at Interplay/24 and a sold-out evening dedicated to her creations for Interplay/25). For the 26th edition, she returns with Maldonne, a choral work, a lively and powerful piece for five dancers, with an eclectic soundtrack ranging from Lara Fabian to Shostakovich, combining classical, electronic and popular music.

DancehALL is a techno-urban showcase in which bodies move in an obsessive ritual. Four dances – salsa, cha-cha-cha, jive and polka – are stripped of their context and reduced to essential dynamic patterns: the steps, once sensual, become raw, mechanical gestures in a choral choreography where contact becomes detached and energy is expended in rhythmic, precise movements.

Meraki stems from a collaboration with Medhat Shafik, winner of the Leone D’Oro at the La Biennale di Venezia, whose installation *Palmira* uses jute, gauze and natural fabrics to evoke the layering of history, humanity’s damage to nature, and violence – represented by bundles symbolising forced travel or exile.

PEOPLE USED TO DIE. The original title of the choreography is Avant les gens mouraient, created by the (LA)HORDE collective in 2014 for the École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal (EDCM). Re-staged here for the dancers of Equilibrio Dinamico, the performance explores the Mainstream Hardcore movement, reinterpreting the languages of Hardjump, Hakken (the Gabber scene) and Jumpstyle.

Last Movement of Hope was born from the desire to explore, through dance, our relationships with ourselves and with others, our fears, our struggles and, above all, the hope that drives us forward. Conceived as a collection of short stories, the various sections of the work take the form of chapters in a journey of creative exploration made up of encounters, emotions and reflections.

Violetto Bellosguardo. A work by the young Vittorio Porcelli, a performer for Marina Abramović at the Albertina Modern in Vienna, who returns to Italy after training abroad, supported by the Equilibrio Dinamico company. In his latest creation, Violetto Bellosguardo uses gesture, voice and dance to explore the arrogance of youth and the resulting tension between ambition and collapse.

Natural order of things. The latest creation by award-winning choreographers Maria Campos and Guy Nader, the show premiered at the Grec Festival in Barcelona on 3 July 2024, followed by its international premiere at the Venice Dance Biennale on 19 July 2024, and was awarded three MAX Awards in 2025: Best Choreography, Best Female Dancer (Maria Campos) and Best Male Dancer (Alfonso Aguilar).

Cani Lunari. On stage, the five stunning performers of Stuporosa – winner of the Ubu Award for Best Show 2024 – present a new creation by Marilungo, in which they take on the roles of contemporary witches, amidst rituals, limping, trance-like states and frenzied laughter.

sex.exe.  An overlap between ancient and modern codices that share the body as a starting point. The mapping of stage lights remains imprinted, a reference to the cyberfeminist imagination. Alessandra Cozzi, Elena della Manna, and Eleonora Gambini perform the choreography while performing what appears to be a human sacrifice rite within a modern matrix.

Interdisciplinary creation. He was invited to the Interplay festival to create a collaborative choreography with professional dancers, who will be selected via an open call, to be presented at the festival. The aim of the project is to foster an inclusive performance practice open to diverse forms of expression, which Bassam will develop with the participants during a choreographic residency at Mosaico Danza’s LIVING LAB, the nature-based residency space created with the support of the PNRR TOCC ecological transition grant.
