Dear friends,

We are pleased to report that in May, during the Interplay/11 International Festival of Contemporary Dance, once again the critical writing workshop will be held, conducted by young critics from the group ALTRE VELOCITA’. Formed in 2005 during the festival 'Contemporanea05' (in Prato), the group has been at major festivals of the new contemporary scene, with texts, workshops and interviews of those working in the sector. We also wish to remember their three-year long collaboration with the Association Cantieri and the network Anticorpi (Antibodies) in Emilia Romagna, their participation in the project 'Argo Navis', theatrical itineraries in the province of Rimini, along with their collaboration on three editions of the VIE Contemporary Scene Festival of the Emilia Romagna Theatre.
Their published works include the recent volume One shot. Drawings and words from the theatre of Fanny & Alexander, Motus, Chiara Guidi / Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio, Clandestine theatre (2010), for Longo Editions. The group has also curated some broadcasts on the program Fahrenheit on Radio 3, in collaboration with the association Punta Corsara from Naples.

The critical writing workshop, conceived especially for Interplay 2011, will alternate moments of collective writing in the classroom with those of watching the performances and will try to give the participants a shared understanding of the works presented during the festival, with the aim of revealing the queries and codes of contemporary dance and the reasons hidden within a work of art, offering the opportunity to acquire some first notions of criticism... conveyed through writing, identifying this latter as a tool for discussion and development of their critical thinking. The workshop is open to all, therefore it proposes to mediate the encounter between the languages of contemporary arts and a potential audience, encouraging an interested and aware enjoyment.

The texts produced during the workshop will be published on the website: www.damsdalvivo.it in collaboration with the website of Piemonte dal Vivo (Piedmont Live) curated by the Assessorato alla Cultura della Regione Piemonte (Piedmont Region Department of Culture).

Participants in the workshop will receive a press pass for entry to all performances of the festival.
